Imported Vehicles & Emissions

Cabinet is meeting later this year to agree on the new emissions rule regarding vehicles entering the New Zealand fleet. It appears likely that any vehicles imported into New Zealand that have their border check date prior to 1st January 2008 will NOT be required to meet the requirements of the new Emissions Rule.

VTNZ has checked with the Ministry of Transport and with Land Transport New Zealand and can now confirm that it appears likely that any vehicles imported into New Zealand that have their border check date prior to 1st January 2008 will NOT be required to meet the requirements of the new Emissions Rule, regardless of the date the vehicles are processed for entry ("entry certified").

Of course this needs to be confirmed by Cabinet in its final decision, expected later this year.

Although it appears that these vehicles will not have to meet the new Rule, the exhaust and emissions' original equipment must not be altered or modified.
