Certificate of Fitness (CoF)
Certificate of Fitness inspections are safety inspections for commercial vehicles (such as taxis, rental cars, buses, trucks and ambulances).
There are two types of Certificates of Fitness - A and B. CoF-A inspections are for commercial vehicles that weigh 3.5 tonnes or under. CoF-B inspections are carried out on commercial vehicles (goods and passenger service) that weigh over 3.5 tonnes.
The Certificate of Fitness is a Warrant of Fitness for commercial vehicles.
The key difference between the two inspections is generally due to the size of the vehicle (eg, more wheels to inspect, heavy duty machinery required to test a truck's brakes compared with a car's).
VTNZ is one of the few organisations authorised by the NZ Transport Agency to carry out Certificate of Fitness inspections, and prides itself on being the only company with nationwide coverage. We understand that our customers need the inspection carried out quickly and efficiently - time really does mean money for our commercial vehicle operators!
