VTNZ as we know it today started its life in 1994 as a State Owned Enterprise following a review of the Ministry of Transport. Within five short years it had grown to 52 stations.
VTNZ was privatised in 1999 and the Motor Trade Association purchased the company. VTNZ used to be known by its full name, Vehicle Testing New Zealand and chose to re-brand to the much more succinct "VTNZ" in mid 2004.
In December 2004 VTNZ purchased the business of On Road New Zealand Limited, with 14 stations and 250 staff, increasing coverage to nearly 80 testing stations nationwide and staff numbers close to 1,000. On Tuesday 28 October 2008 the On Road stations were rebranded, closing their doors as On Road and re-opening over Labour Weekend as VTNZ testing stations.
There are now more than 80 VTNZ testing stations across the country of which nearly all carry out Warrant of Fitness inspections. More than 50 of the 80 stations also carry out safety inspections on the heavy vehicles of New Zealand.
VTNZ is the largest vehicle inspection company in New Zealand by far. When you want to ensure you're getting a thorough, independent safety inspection, come to the experts!
