About VTNZ

VTNZ - the leader in independent vehicle inspections for your motoring peace of mind

VTNZ as we know it today started its life in 1994 as a State Owned Enterprise following a review of the Ministry of Transport. Within five short years it had grown to 52 stations.

VTNZ was privatised in 1999 and the Motor Trade Association purchased the company.  VTNZ used to be known by its full name, Vehicle Testing New Zealand and chose to re-brand to the much more succinct "VTNZ" in 2004.

Also in 2004, VTNZ purchased the business of On Road New Zealand.  On Road added another 14 stations and 250 staff which at the time increased VTNZ's coverage to 75 testing stations nationwide with staff numbers close to 1,000.  In 2008 the On Road stations were rebranded to VTNZ which meant there were 80 bright orange testing stations dotted around the country.

There are now 86 VTNZ testing stations and nearly all carry out Warrant of Fitness inspections (most without our customers requiring a WoF booking time in advance).  Well over half of the stations also carry out safety inspections on the heavy vehicles of New Zealand.  And VTNZ is the only company to have satellite "offsites" to inspect heavy vehicles in the more rural areas.

VTNZ is the largest vehicle inspection company in New Zealand - by a country mile.  When you want to ensure you're getting a thorough, independent safety inspection, go to the experts! We'd love to see you soon.
